Cleanse

February is good for…

It’s February and many of are thinking “winteritis”, “Cabin Fever” or will the gloom of winter ever leave?

What convenient timing, to have a month dedicated to cleaning after we professed our commitment to improve, change or correct habits as our new year’s resolutions just 31 days ago. If this sounds too drastic for you, think of it as an opportunity to review your resolutions and decide if they are still resolutions that you are committed to. Maybe the “cleanse” is to get rid of some of those goals or resolutions that you made that just aren’t working out so well. Maybe you don’t want to drink a gallon of water a day, maybe just 2 glasses in the morning and 2 glasses of water in the afternoon is a big adjustment. Remember those resolutions you made 31 days ago, need to INSPIRE you in order to make changes in your life. We all have to start somewhere.

While you’re busy “cleansing” your body, mind, and soul, and don’t forget your house and office. What do I mean? Well, I am looking at my office and realizing that I have a bulletin board full of my favorite photos, sayings, and poems. It’s all good, I enjoy looking at them AND I must ask myself if this is really serving me to hit my goals. Perhaps the month of February means that I cleanse this board and replace it with something that will assist me in hitting my goals. Perhaps I need to create an environment that will help, not distract me. Just like throwing out all the cookies and candies that need to be trashed before starting that diet.

In addition, when I walk through my house, I believe there is a closet that needs to be “cleansed” and a pantry. Food banks and thrift stores are trying to stock back up with inventory after the holidays and could use some of the non-perishables in the cub boards and drawers. Maybe that junk drawer in my desk and kitchen finally need to be cleaned out and the junk needs to go away.

Are you starting to catch on? The good thing is that February is a short month. And thank goodness. So, if you are feeling a bit overwhelmed, take a deep breath and dive into one drawer, one section of your closet or 1 shelf in the pantry. Whatever you do, will be the right amount to feel an accomplishment for the month. I just took apart my sock drawer and it looks and feels great. Cleansing…it’s good for soul. I am sorry that I did not take a before and after photo for you.

I personally like February. Not only it is a month of Cleansing, it also is a month full of optimism: Just ask the groundhog who may or not see his shadow and question, what does that exactly mean… it’s a time for love, and fun with President’s Day creating an opportunity for fun and a 3-day weekend. The snowpack is good and therefore perfect conditions for a moonlight snowshoe or cross-country ski adventure. It’s also a great time to check in and see how you’re doing with your new year’s resolution and if you have failed at some, you have a chance to re-group and kick off another new year with the Chinese New Year on February 10th. Cleanse the old standard operating procedures and do something different. Cleanse the mind, body, and soul with optimism of the month and do something different. And if you do, make sure you let me know on my Facebook page at: facebook.com/lowervalleyrealty. Good luck.
